FREE TO PARROT FESTIVAL ATTENDEES
​This is a workshop designed to give good information and advice to those who are new to parrots or who are looking to get a parrot. Excellent clinicians will help you understand what it's like to own a parrot, how to make sure it thrives, and how you and your parrot can enjoy each other.

This is a special session presented at the Annual NPRPF Parrot Festival in Houston, TX. You may register for this workshop without registering for the conference. Cost is only $50/person ($10 for Students).

Parrots 101 Schedule
This year Parrots 101 will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
​
It will include one main session followed by 4 microsessions and 2 bonus sessions.
​
Hands on demonstrations on easing day-to-day care and improving your relationship with your parrot.
​
All highlighted sessions on the Saturday Schedule are available to Parrots 101 attendees. Enjoy!
Meet the Speakers

Leigh Spencer
Leigh has trained, presented, and cared for parrots, raptors, and other birds in a professional capacity for over 20 years. She began her career as a presenter and trainer for a bird show company, working with a range of species. She worked at two large zoos in Texas, first as a bird keeper and then as an education specialist. Leigh currently oversees the training and handling of several parrots and birds of prey as the Education Director for the Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium.

Jack Pine
Jack is a professional animal caretaker, presenter, and the creator of the Hi Red Bird! YouTube channel. Jack has spent his professional career working with a wide variety of animals (everything from budgies to elephants) while utilizing a vast array of animal care approaches. The Hi Red Bird! YouTube channel he created is a culmination of all the tips and tricks he has honed over the years. With a particular emphasis on enrichment and training, Jack hopes to help others foster their love and appreciation of animals and the natural world.
